A Birthday Reflection: Finding Peace in Progress, Not Perfection

How do we measure another year?

The Birthday Feelings No One Talks About

I often remember my dad being a little grumpy on his birthdays. “What’s there to celebrate?? I’m old!” he’d say. And while I don’t always love getting older myself, birthdays for me have become a moment of gratitude — a reminder that I’m even here at all, that I’ve made it another year, and that there’s so much to appreciate in this life.

Yet, as the day approaches, I often notice a familiar hum of anxiety beneath the surface — that quiet whisper telling me I should have done more, achieved more, or made this birthday somehow “significant.” As my birthday approaches, I always notice a familiar hum of anxiety beneath the surface—this quiet whisper that says I should have done more by now. That each year needs to be significant in some way.

But what if the most meaningful thing we can do is simply pause, breathe, and appreciate the life we’re already living?

A Cosmic Reset for the Heart

This year, my birthday coincides with a rare cosmic alignment. On October 21, the new moon forms a Yod above as Pluto turns direct and Neptune returns home. In simpler terms: it’s a cosmic reset for the heart.

And, it kinda feels like the universe itself is nudging me to pause, release what feels heavy, and reconnect with what is real and true within. A perfect mirror for my own reflection this birthday — a reminder that letting go, trusting myself, and opening to love and joy is always timely.

Every year, this reflection hits me a little differently. I notice the progress that doesn’t always make headlines—the small shifts in how I treat myself, the ways I show up more fully, the moments when I choose calm over chaos. And for that, I am grateful.

The Hardest Truth I’ve Learned

I’ve spent much of my life giving—pouring love, time, and energy into others. It’s one of my greatest strengths, but also one of my greatest lessons.

Because for years, I gave so big that I often forgot to include myself in that love. I was the helper, the doer, looking to others for answers—but I rarely asked myself what I needed.

And here’s the hardest truth I’ve had to face: the love I’ve been searching for has always been my own.

All the other things—the validation, the achievements, the relationships—can offer comfort, but they’re only temporary embraces. The lasting one comes from within.

Living More Raw, More Real

This year, I’ve made a promise to myself: to dare to live more vulnerably.

To laugh more.
To have more fun.
To show up with more truth, even when it feels uncomfortable.

That doesn’t mean striving or forcing life to look a certain way. It means allowing it. Accepting what others bring—or don’t bring—and trusting that what’s meant for me will never miss me.

Whether you’re a man or a woman navigating midlife, this work looks different for everyone. Maybe for you, it’s slowing down. Maybe it’s speaking up. Maybe it’s letting yourself be seen for who you are, not who you think you should be.

A Question for You

So, I’ll ask you this:

💭 What would it look like for you to live more openly this year—with more gratitude, more joy, and more courage to be fully yourself?

If you feel inspired to share, I’d love to hear from you. Just hit reply to this email or message me directly on Instagram.

A Note of Gratitude

As I celebrate another year around the sun, I’m learning that life isn’t about arriving somewhere impressive—it’s about arriving home to ourselves.

To those who’ve walked beside me, encouraged me, and trusted me with their growth—thank you. You’ve been part of my journey in ways that words can’t capture.
